He had been sidelined since suffering a right thumb injury in a game against Oakland on July 2 while attempting to make a diving catch in right field.

The Indians placed him on the disabled list on July 4, retroactive to the day before.

In 78 games this season, Choo is hitting .286 with a .390 on-base percentage, 13 home runs and 43 runs batted in.

To make room for Choo, Cleveland placed left-hander Aaron Laffey on the 15-day disabled list with left shoulder fatigue.

Laffey has appeared in 25 games, including five starts, and has posted a record of 2-3 with a 4.62 earned run average.
