08/07/2010 - Milwaukee, WI (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - George Kottaras belted a solo homer and Rickie Weeks hit an inside-the-parker, as the Brewers edged the Astros, 5-2, to take the second meeting of a three-game set.

Prince Fielder drove in a pair and Corey Hart went 3-for-4 with two runs scored in Milwaukee's fourth victory in five games overall.

Randy Wolf (8-9) picked up the win after allowing two runs on nine hits and a walk in 6 2/3 innings. Trevor Hoffman pitched a perfect ninth for his first save since May 7.

Brett Myers (8-7) was on the opposite end of the decision, surrendering four runs on seven hits in a six-inning start. It was the most runs Myers allowed since yielding seven against the Brewers on June 29.

Hunter Pence had two hits and knocked in a run in the loss, Houston's third straight.

Weeks led off the home first by taking an 0-2 pitch to deep center. Jason Bourgeois mistimed his jump at the wall, and the carom allowed the speedy Weeks to round the bases for Milwaukee's first inside-the-park homer of the year.

Hart followed with a double to the left field gap, advanced on a groundout and scored on Fielder's bouncer to short.

The Brewers extended their 2-0 lead in the sixth thanks to four consecutive singles, as Fielder's bloop to left plated Hart and Casey McGehee's base hit up the middle scored Ryan Braun.

Wolf stranded eight runners in the first five innings, pitched a 1-2-3 sixth and even flashed his defensive skills in the seventh, fielding Angel Sanchez's bunt down the third base line and throwing out the runner at first while falling to the ground.

The lefty was pulled later in the inning following Pence's run-scoring two- bagger, and Kameron Loe came in and allowed an RBI, ground-rule double to Carlos Lee before getting out the inning with Milwaukee still leading 4-2.

Kottaras got a run back in the bottom half by taking Nelson Figueroa deep to open the inning.

Loe, Zach Braddock and Todd Coffey combined for a scoreless eighth, and Hoffman set down the top of Houston's order in succession in the ninth for his sixth save of the year.

Game Notes

Myers extended his franchise record for consecutive six-plus inning starts to begin a season to 23...Hoffman had his closer role taken from him when he blew his fifth save against Cincinnati on May 18. Meanwhile, the Derby favorite – Curlin – is going against the odds this year. It's been 125 years since Apollo won after skipping his 2-year-old season, and not since Regret in 1915 has such a lightly seasoned horse worn the blanket of red roses.

Arkansas Derby winner Curlin – unbeaten in three career races – tries to overcome both those obstacles in Saturday's 133rd Derby.

''We're not running against history,'' trainer Steve Asmussen said Monday. ''We're running against who they load up.''

Six other horses have run in the Derby without benefit of 2-year-old races and with three or fewer starts. The best any of them managed was a sixth-place finish by Showing Up last year.
   
Asmussen dismissed suggestions that Curlin's lack of racing experience could keep him from the winner's circle.

”He exudes confidence and he's got a great presence about him,'' the trainer said. ''I feel great about the position we're in. He's not worried about anything, why should you be?''

Reportedly, he is in great shape and well ahead of schedule to return to form. Also, he could have some added motivation to put up big numbers this season with the Eagles using their first pick in the draft on McNabb’s future successor Kevin Kolb.
